Food Network Star – Crazy Susan visits The Cypress

August 8th, 2011 by vicki

Susan and Barry Adair, owners of Crazy Susan’s Cookie Company in Ocean City, NJ, visited The Cypress in January with friends Patti and Ron Smith.  Susan, Vicki, Patti, and Barry grew up together in West Berlin, NJ.  The Food Network is now airing a weekly show “Tough Cookies”,  featuring Susan and her family at their Jersey shore establishment.  While vacationing at The Cypress, Susan treated the other guests by baking a batch of her famous cookies for everyone to enjoy.  Picture of Nina and Vicki with the Adairs and Smith’s in The Cypress parking lot.  www.crazysusanscookies.com
Check out Tough Cookies: Food Network 6:00 pm, Sunday nights.
This summer, the only things more popular than the beach in Ocean City, N. J., are the cookies at Crazy Susan’s. Run by a loving, squabbling and cacophonous multigenerational family, Crazy Susan’s never knows a dull moment. Sisters Susan and Linda try to keep everything running smoothly — but with lines out the door, phones that never stop ringing and family members who seem to create more problems than solutions, they’ll need to work their tails off to keep those cookies from crumbling.

New College Featured in Princeton Review

August 5th, 2011 by vicki

The Princeton Review named New College of Florida one of the country’s best colleges for the tenth consecutive year in its newly published college guide The Best 376 Colleges: 2012 Edition. New College is one of only 15 percent of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges profiled in the book and also regularly appears in The Princeton Review’s annual 100 Best Value Colleges. The Best 376 Colleges includes detailed college profiles with rating scores 60 to 99 for all schools in eight categories. New College received a rating of 94 for academics, 98 for interesting professors and 92 for financial aid. The rating scores are based primarily on institutional data collected during the 2010-11 academic year and student surveys.

The Cypress Bed and Breakfast congratulates our neighbors at New College on being named one of the country’s best colleges by The Princeton Review.  Over the years, many families and friends of the New College students have been guests at our nearby inn.

Art in Sarasota Florida

May 27th, 2011 by vicki

Sarasota ranked 5th in the nation (and 1st in Florida) in the Top 25 Small Cities for Art in the May 2011 issue of American Style magazine. This distinction is the result of a determined effort by community members. Thousands of votes were cast via online and mail-in ballots to determine these top arts destinations.

As an example of art in Sarasota, the innkeepers recommend this great exhibit that just opened at The Ringling Museum.

EXHIBIT: Beyond Bling: Voices of Hip Hop in Art, The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, May 21–Aug. 15, 10am–5pm

Over the past 30 years hip hop culture has expanded from an almost exclusively African-American and Latino phenomenon to one that has been appropriated by other social and ethnic groups. In the first decade of the 21st century, hip hop and the street culture from which it sprang have exerted a powerful influence on all aspects of culture. Beyond Bling: Voices of Hip Hop in Art brings together artists who have provocatively incorporated signifiers of hip hop and street culture into their work. It is an exhibition that incites further questions and expands our ideas of what it means to speak with a historically urban voice in this age of advanced globalization.

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, 5401 Bay Shore Rd., Sarasota, 941-359-5700.
